There are ideas that have to be born in the heart. And that, in fact, are born. There are others that do not remain only on paper: they have and must be materialized. This is the case for the new campaign DON’T BE SHY, TOUCH YOURSELF!. But this is more than a T-shirt, it is a manifesto for prevention, self-examination in an early diagnosis of breast cancer, for life and love.
In this love story, the protagonists are Tânia Dioespirro and Luís Carvalho. She’s a stylist, he’s a designer. Friends. When Tania found out she had breast cancer she decided to talk about it publicly, without any shame, so that her story could be an example to so many other women. Luís Carvalho had the idea of using fashion as a warning signal. When she shared the idea of creating a campaign, Tânia wanted “not only to make people aware of the importance of self-examination, but to demystify the prejudice associated with the image of those who undergo treatment. This campaign assumes it, empowers it and normalises it.
The T-shirt, the central object of the project, is a play on words and a graphic message that hits home, on the chest, of those who wear it and those who see it. It is on sale in the designer’s online store for €35, 85% of which will be donated to Portuguese breast cancer support institutions. Here, there is no place for shyness and indifference.
