During the Middle Ages silk production was also present in cities such as Lisbon, known for the production of sendal and silk veils.

There was also production in cities like Guimarães, Porto and Évora, and also in the Trás-os-Montes region which was very durable and passed from the Middle Ages to the modern age.

In the late 15th century, during the reign of Afonso V, a monopoly on sericulture was given to the House of Bragança, a very large manorial domain. The city of Bragança then had a silk production with 40 looms, which was something quite remarkable.
