Every magazine, every project has a page, a paragraph, a sentence, that explains who we are, what we do, what moves us, our vision of the world and where we want to go. Because we are many. We’re dozens, we’d say. Everything you see in our magazine is the work of a great team. Dozens of people, who dream, build and work to make Soul see the light of the day every six months. And we always want to make it better. We want it to be different from the previous issues in order to make a difference. For it to stay on our bookshelves, not to collect dust or to hold an object, but because these two hundred pages contain several weeks of work, dreams, ideas that were used, stories of overcoming difficulties, hidden talents and surprising brands.
In an issue dedicated to women’s power, we would like to introduce you to two women who have been involved in Portuguese Soul from the very beginning. Women who are a reference in their fields, who are part of a complex industry, and who are helping to take Soul to the next level. This is our way of openly showing how much we admire them.
And instead of just talking about them, we show you some of their work, the ones we know deep down are special.
Patrícia Lima
the line artist
What’s the first thing that pops into our mind when we see a drawing? You could easily guess the colour. But what would be the most important? The line: it’s the element that makes the pencil go from point A to point B. It sets the pulse of a work of art, it’s still and yet, when we look at it, it seems to be alive.
Her line on the face of each and every model is truly remarkable. You could even call it a living work in motion. Patrícia has been our makeup artist from day one. And so, our words are addressed directly to her, and to those who haven’t yet met her.
She needs no introduction to the fashion industry, where she has worked for over 30 years. Helena is one of the biggest names in makeup in Portugal, combining her formidable technical skills with a touch of creativity and irreverence.
Her long career includes some of the most prestigious national and international publications, and she works regularly with the most relevant fashion brands.
Helena Silva
the maker
Take an idea, an almost impossible task, something we might call a mission impossible: Helena can do it. We jokingly call her ‘the boss’ because she always manages to get the whole team to work together. She gives the orders, she organises, and she takes control. But, most importantly, she makes dreams come true. If you don’t quite understand Helena’s position in the magazine, it’s quite simple: she is responsible for producing some of our editorials.
Since 2009, she has run Snowberry Production, a company that brings visions to life. Located in the beautiful house of Flor do Campo, the company is responsible for making the dreams of its customers come true, whether on a large or small scale.
We once read that everyone needs a Helena in their life, and we were surprised that we weren’t the ones saying it, considering all she does for our magazine. She also has an amazing team with her. These new faces are an easy addition to our family as well.
We asked Helena what Soul means to her. “For me, Soul is a pioneering project in Portugal. Not only because it imagines, creates, develops, presents and promotes the talents, products and services of the Portuguese market, with a unique soul and passion, but also because the Portuguese industry is focused on excellent products. Soul is able to combine these two characteristics in one piece. For this reason, Soul is a constant challenge and a source of motivation to do more and even better, to be more present, to allow myself and Snowberry to be part of a Portuguese project, with the Soul of a fighter for more and better work”.
