Portuguese jewellery claims another luxury crown

Words: Ilídia Pinto

After successful launches at the Brooklyn Collective in New York and Rinascente in Milan, Wonther’s jewellery collection is now available at the iconic LVMH-owned Belmond Reid’s Palace in Funchal.

Wonther, the Portuguese jewellery brand known for blending contemporary design with an “unwavering commitment” to sustainability, has reached new heights in the luxury market. It is now on sale at the iconic Reid’s Palace, one of the world’s most prestigious hotels and a crown jewel in the Belmond group.

Founded in late 2019 by Olga Kassian, a Ukrainian who has lived in Portugal since she was four, Wonther positions itself as an ethically responsible brand. Each piece is handcrafted with materials sourced exclusively from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council, ensuring respect for human rights, workers’ rights and environmental standards. While the brand initially focused on female empowerment, it has evolved into a gender-neutral project, offering a broader range of sizes and more inclusive marketing.

The brand’s mission statement declares it is: “Inspired by values such as balance, love and ambition, Wonther celebrates individuality and each person’s unique journey, offering jewellery that reflects both personal style and unwavering principles”. Taking its sustainability commitment further, the Braga-based brand encourages “conscious” consumption and the recycling of materials. Through its LOVE, GIVE BACK, REPEAT campaign, Wonther accepts any unwanted silver items for recycling and to give them a new life. In return, it offers customers a 20% discount on their next purchase.

This ethical approach to business has earned it international recognition and numerous awards. It has also opened doors to prestigious retail spaces such as the Brooklyn Collective in New York and Rinascente in Milan. It is also available at Room 214 in the Canary Islands, The Yeatman Hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia and across all Torel group properties, including Palace Porto, Palace Lisboa and Avantgarde. Now, it has secured a presence at Belmond Reid’s Palace, which has been part of the LVMH group since 2019.

Located in Funchal, Reid’s Palace is synonymous with elegance and tradition, and is long established as a preferred destination for luxury travellers.

“Wonther’s inclusion at Reid’s Palace represents more than just another distribution point; it’s global recognition for excellence in Portuguese craftsmanship. We’re thrilled to offer Reid’s guests a jewellery collection that symbolises more than mere beauty and where each piece tells a personal story”, says Olga Kassian.
