Portugal With 46 Starred Restaurants

In Porto at the end of February, the MICHELIN Guide unveiled its new selection of restaurants for 2025. In total, the inspectors awarded 48 restaurants in Portugal, eight of them for the first time.

All restaurants with two MICHELIN stars retained their distinction. These are: Alma (Lisbon), Antiqvvm (Porto), Belcanto (Lisbon), Casa de Chá da Boa Nova (Leça da Palmeira), Il Gallo d’Oro (Funchal), Ocean (Porches), The Yeatman (Vila Nova de Gaia) and Vila Joya (Albufeira).

Arkhe

Lisbon

Vegan/vegetarian cuisine continues to win over fans, and Brazilian chef João Ricardo Alves is fully committed to it. In his minimalist-style restaurant, alongside Alejandro Chávarro, who takes on the soles of maître d’ and sommelier, he presents three tasting menus of remarkable delicacy, technique and flavour: Lunch, Discovery and Carte Blanche.

This is an excellent choice for those seeking a different and surprising gastronomic experience! The concept by renowned chef Vítor Matos, brought to life daily by chef Rita Magro (winner of the 2024 MICHELIN Young Chef Award), pays tribute to Blindness by José Saramago, and plays with diners through a surprising menu.

A unique restaurant in the heart of Alfama? This is one of those places to always keep in mind, slightly removed from the tourist bustle, at Patio de Dom Fradique. Offering two tasting menus (Grenache and Experience), the concept is led by chef Philippe Gelfi, who draws on his heritage to deliver modern and elegant cuisine with French roots.

Just a short distance from the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, this contemporary restaurant impresses with its large open central kitchen, allowing guests to watch chef Marlene Vieira and her team work at all times. Two compelling tasting menus are offered here, inspired both by Portuguese tradition and world flavours.

Vila do Conde

Located within The Lince Santa Clara hotel, it lives up to its name: the space emerged following renovations and excavations of the former Santa Clara Monastery. The gastronomic offering, developed by renowned chefs Vítor Matos and Hugo Rocha, includes two tasting menus closely tied to the marine world and seasonal produce.

Braga

On the southern outskirts of Braga, this elegant restaurant features a wine bar showcasing local vintages and a dining room carefully curated decor. With exceptional service, guests may opt for à la carte dining or choose between two tasting menus: Tradição and Inovação (Tradition and Innovation) In both, Portuguese culinary roots are creatively reinterpreted.


Vinha

Vila Nova de Gaia

The fine dining restaurant of the Vinha Boutique Hotel impresses with its refined elegance in every detail. The concept, devised by celebrated chef Henrique Sá Pessoa and executed by resident chef Jonathan Seiller, captivates with both its à la carte offering and tasting menu — Identidade (Identity) — consistently using top-quality Portuguese seasonal ingredients with a contemporary touch.


YŌSO

Lisbon

At this restaurant, the name of which alludes to the four elements of nature (earth, water, fire and air), chef Habner Gomes brings us closer to Japanese cuisine and kaiseki style through a single omakase tasting menu. Served either at a sushi counter or one of three tables, the experience takes diners on a journey through various Japanese techniques and seasonal ingredients.
